This summer I felt inspired that I needed time to bond with my older children and also that we all needed to get outdoors and enjoy the weather while we can, and that we all needed to be active.
Thanks to my husband's invention, the Tyke Toter, we have been able to both work together as a family, and to enjoy many family bike rides. But I wanted to take it a step further and really inspire and push the older kids! The answer was that 3 days a week I go running with my daughter, and on the opposite days I take my boys biking.
My daughter is working up to a 3 mile jog. She is able to take her dog with us so he also gets enough exercise. We get to talk (between our huffing and puffing) and enjoy the beautiful sunshine, river, plants, butterflies and other animals. One day, we got to watch 2 men kayaking down the river!
My sons and I have had many adventures on our bike rides. We have made it from our house all the way up to Bridal Veil Falls, a 10-mile ride! They got to wade in the water for a while before returning home. We have seen several snakes on the trail, and we have been off-road on mountain trails.
We have really enjoyed these summer activities. How thankful I am for our health and the opportunity we have had to breathe and live and move together!
What great ideas!
